About Ricky Broussard

Ricky started his own business, Get A Life In Texas, in January 2005 to further his mission to ‘change the world for people with disabilities and those who support them’. Using his circle of support, Ricky continues to chip away at the barriers to create a viable business and a meaningful life. Ricky is known through out the state for his legislative advocacy, serving on committees and boards at the local, state and national levels. Currently he is the past-president of the Texas Advocates and a regional board member of Self Advocates Beco
ming Empowered (SABE) a national organization.

In July 2007, Ricky Broussard moved to his own apartment, supported by his family, friends and staff paid through a Medicaid waiver. He was first institutionalized at the age of 10, due to lack of community supports to remain at home. He since lived in three large institutions and a group home, until moving to his own apartment. Ricky’s success is due to his commitment to quality of life, his willingness to assist so many others and the power of a circle of support.Ricky and his grandmother enjoy time together

Ricky joined Imagine Enterprises as a staff member in 2007 and is part of the Self-Determination for Texas team where he delivers presentations on self-determination and self-advocacy to various audiences throughout Texas. Before becoming a staff member Ricky served on Imagine’s Board of Directors since 1999 and has seen the company grow. By working for Imagine Ricky feels that he has fulfilled his dream by getting a real job and hopes that others with disabilities will see that this can be done and will follow in his
path. When working at different events he feels rewarded when he can share information with self-advocates and family members that will help them take that next step towards their personal goals.

Be self-determined!
Ricky
